JANIS CLAXTON DANCE TO PERFORM OUTDOORS AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Scottish company Janis Claxton Dance makes its US debut with POP-UP Duets (fragments of love), a series of five-minute contemporary dance duets, at the Clark Art Institute on Sunday, June 17 from 2–4 pm. The performances, all free and open to the public, will be held in various locations throughout the Clark’s campus.

POP-UP Duets is based around the theme of love and designed for a wide range of public spaces. Praised as “a richly inventive, wonderfully perceptive work, danced with a persuasive humanity to a score you want to own” (The Herald), the site-specific duets are created by choreographer Janis Claxton with music composed by Pippa Murphy.

Janis Claxton Dance is an award-winning contemporary dance company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The company creates choreographed works for touring in small- to mid-scale venues and site-specific performances for unique spaces. Janis Claxton Dance has been based in Edinburgh since 2005 and is one of Scotland’s leading project-funded dance companies. With a core team of locally based dancers, the company’s training-based methodology results in a unique movement voice underpinned by Claxton’s passionate commitment to movement research.

Janis Claxton Dance has toured throughout Scotland and has taken works to Wales, England and China. ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. Opened in 1955, the Clark houses exceptional European and American paintings and sculpture, extensive collections of master prints and drawings, English silver, and early photography. The Clark, which has a three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide, is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
