CLARK ART INSTITUTE TO AIR ‘JULIUS CAESAR’ FROM LONDON’S BRIDGE THEATRE

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute presents Julius Caesar, broadcast from the Bridge Theatre of London, on Sunday, May 20 at 2 pm. Tickets are $18 ($16 for Clark members) and may be purchased online at clarkart.edu or by calling the box office at 413 458 0524. The performance will be held in the auditorium, located in the Manton Research Center. Run time is 2 hours, 15 minutes, with no intermission.

Ben Whishaw (The Danish Girl, Skyfall, Hamlet) and Michelle Fairley (Fortitude, Game of Thrones) play Brutus and Cassius; David Calder (The Lost City of Z, The Hatton Garden Job) plays Caesar; and David Morrissey (The Missing, Hangmen, The Walking Dead) is Mark Antony. This is an encore performance.

In one of Shakespeare’s most famous tales, Caesar returns in triumph to Rome, and the people pour out of their homes to celebrate. Alarmed by the autocrat’s popularity, the educated elite conspire to bring him down. After his assassination, civil war erupts on the streets of the capital.

Nicholas Hytner’s production thrusts the audience into the street party that greets Caesar’s return, the congress that witnesses his murder, the rally that assembles for his funeral, and the chaos that explodes in its wake.

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. The Clark, which has a three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide, is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
