CLARK ART INSTITUTE TO AIR METROPOLITAN OPERA’S ‘LUISA MILLER’

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute presents a live, high-definition screening of the Metropolitan Opera’s Luisa Miller on Saturday, April 14 at 12:30 pm. The screening will be held in the Clark’s auditorium, located in the Manton Research Center. Tickets are $25 (Clark members $22; students $18). Conducted by Bertrand de Billy, the revival of Giuseppe Verdi’s Luisa Miller, not seen at the Met since 2006, stars Sonya Yoncheva in the title role opposite Piotr Beczala as Rodolfo in a story about a young woman who sacrifices her own happiness in an attempt to save her father’s life. The cast also stars Plácido Domingo as Luisa’s father.

The opera in three acts, based on the play Kabale und Liebe by Friedrich von Schiller, features a libretto by Salvadore Cammarano. The world premiere was performed at Teatro di San Carlo, Naples in 1849.

Run time is 3 hours, 38 minutes.

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
