CLARK ART INSTITUTE OFFERS FREE PRINT ROOM TALKS

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute invites the public for weekly half-hour talks in the Manton Study Center for Works on Paper, which houses the Institute’s collection of more than 6,000 prints, drawings, and photographs. Beginning Monday, July 9 at 1 pm, the free talks explore a selection of rarely exhibited works on paper with a member of the curatorial department. The talks continue through Monday, August 27.

Kicking off the series on July 9 is “Working on Paper in Nineteenth-century France” with curatorial intern Nora Rosengarten, who takes an in-depth look at works by women artists. Inspired by the special exhibition Women Artists in Paris, 1850–1900, the talk explores prints and drawings by Mary Cassatt, Rosa Bonheur, Berthe Morisot, Suzanne Valadon, Louise Breslau, and Käthe Kollwitz to consider the unique position of women artists working in late nineteenth-century Paris.

August 27: “Whistler and His Followers in Venice” with curatorial assistant Regina Noto

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. The Clark, which has a three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide, is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
