CLARK ART INSTITUTE CURATOR TO HOLD TALK ON BAUHAUS SCHOOL OF ART
March 14, 2019
Williamstown, Massachusetts—Robert Wiesenberger, Associate Curator of Contemporary Projects at the Clark Art Institute, presents the free talk “The Bauhaus, 100 Years On” on Thursday, April 4 at 10:30 am in the Manton Study Center for Works on Paper. Space is limited; reservations are required. To reserve, visit clarkart.edu or call 413 458 0524.
This year marks the centennial of the founding of the Bauhaus, the twentieth century’s most influential school of art and design. Beyond the activity of its famous workshops, the Bauhaus popularized its products and an array of avant-garde “isms” through its publishing imprint, the Bauhaus Books (Bauhausbücher). The Clark library owns a nearly complete, first-edition set of these publications, revolutionary in both form and content.
Robert Wiesenberger joined the Clark in 2018 after serving as a critic at the Yale School of Art and as the Stefan Engelhorn Curatorial Fellow at the Harvard Art Museums, where he was responsible for the museums’ Bauhaus collections of more than 30,000 objects. His interests span modern and contemporary art, design, and architecture. Wiesenberger is the coauthor of Muriel Cooper (MIT Press, 2017), author of a publication on Marcel Breuer (August Editions, 2018), and a contributing editor for ART PAPERS magazine. A graduate of the University of Chicago with a concentration in history and Germanic studies, he holds an MA and a PhD in art history from Columbia University and has participated in a number of distinguished programs, including the Center for Curatorial Leadership Mellon Foundation Seminar; the Getty Summer Institute on Digital Art History, and the US Department of Education’s Jacob K. Javits Fellowship.
