CLARK ART INSTITUTE’S ‘BEING IN THE BODY’ FILM SERIES KICKS OFF WITH ‘BEING JOHN MALKOVICH’ AT IMAGES CINEMA

Williamstown, Massachusetts—In conjunction with the Clark Art Institute’s special exhibition, Renoir: The Body, The Senses, the film series “Being in the Body” kicks off with Being John Malkovich (1999) on Saturday, June 15 at 2 pm. The film will be shown at Images Cinema, located at 50 Spring Street, Williamstown. Run time is 1 hour, 53 minutes. Tickets are $8 ($5 Clark and Images members) and can be purchased at the Images box office.

“Being in the Body” explores the experience of inhabiting a body—one’s own or another’s. What does it mean to be in a body? What does it feel like? Do our bodies define us, or is there something more?

When frustrated puppeteer Craig Schwartz finds a portal into John Malkovich’s body, he discovers he can experience what it feels like to be Malkovich. Eventually he learns to control the acclaimed actor too, which Craig thinks will get him everything he ever wanted. Directed by Spike Jonze and written by Charlie Kaufman, this cult comedy favorite stars John Cusack, Catherine Keener, Cameron Diaz and, of course, John Malkovich.

Additional films in the series include Margarita with a Straw (2014) on July 20 at 2 pm and A Skin So Soft (2017) on August 17 at 2 pm.

Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm; open daily in July and August. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
