CLARK ART INSTITUTE’S FILM SERIES CONTINUES AT IMAGES CINEMA

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute continues its film series, “The View from Here,” at Images Cinema in Williamstown on Saturday, February 23 at 2:30 pm with a broadcast of Columbus (2017, unrated). Robert Wiesenberger, Associate Curator of Contemporary Projects at the Clark, introduces the film. Tickets are $8 ($5 for Clark and Images members) and may be purchased at the Images box office, located at 50 Spring Street, Williamstown.

Columbus, the acclaimed feature film debut from video essayist Kogonada, deftly intertwines a story of complicated family histories with an exploration of the emotional impact of physical spaces. The film follows the son of a renowned architecture scholar, played by John Cho, as he explores Columbus, Indiana—home to several renowned modernist buildings—with a young architecture enthusiast. Run time is 1 hour, 44 minutes.

“The View from Here” explores three approaches to the role of landscape in cinema: as subject, as inspiration, and as a means to explore character and emotion. The series concludes on March 9 at 2:30 pm with a showing of Leaning into the Wind (2018, rated PG), introduced by Alexis Goodin, curator of Turner and Constable: The Inhabited Landscape. The exhibition is on view through March 10.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm; open daily in July and August. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
