CLARK ART INSTITUTE TO BROADCAST FINAL MET OPERA OF THE SEASON WITH ‘DIALOGUES DES CARMÉLITES’

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute broadcasts the final Met: Live in HD opera of the season, Dialogues des Carmélites, on Saturday, May 11 at 12 pm. Tickets are $25 ($22 Clark members, $18 students with valid ID) and may be purchased online at clarkart.edu or by calling the box office at 413 458 0524. All ticket sales are non-refundable.

Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads an accomplished ensemble in French composer Francis Poulenc’s devastating modern masterpiece of faith and martyrdom, broadcast live in HD for the first time. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard is the young Blanche de La Force, opposite Met legend Karita Mattila as the First Prioress. As the French Revolution begins, shy Blanche becomes a novice nun under an elderly prioress. Blanche’s aristocratic family flees the Terror, but she remains behind, struggling between her fear of the guillotine and her duty to the convent. When the nuns are expelled from the convent and threatened with death, Blanche must make an agonizing decision.

Now in its thirteenth season, The Met: Live in HD is the Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy Award-winning series of live performances transmitted to theaters in seventy countries around the world. Live telecasts feature the full performance along with backstage interviews and commentary.

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. The Clark, which has a three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide, is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm; open daily in July and August. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
