CLARK ART INSTITUTE AIRS THE MET: LIVE IN HD PRODUCTION OF WOZZECK

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Alban Berg’s opera Wozzeck, airs at the Clark Art Institute Saturday, January 11, at 12:55 pm. Now in its fourteenth season, The Met: Live in HD is the Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning series of live high-definition cinema simulcasts. Broadcasts feature the full performance along with backstage interviews and commentary.

Premiering in Berlin in 1925, Wozzeck has lost none of its dramatic power to affect audiences. Berg’s avant-garde opera, composed during and shortly after World War I, tells the tragic tale of an ordinary soldier and deals with themes of powerlessness and violence that resonate today. Baritone Peter Mattei stars in the title role, with Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium and soprano Elza van den Heever as the long-suffering Marie. Groundbreaking visual artist and director William Kentridge unveils a bold new staging set in an apocalyptic wasteland. Run time is one hour, thirty-two minutes.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
