CLARK ART INSTITUTE AIRS THE MET: LIVE IN HD PRODUCTION OF BORIS GODUNOV

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Metropolitan Opera’s production of Boris Godunov airs at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, October 9, at 12:55 pm in the season’s first presentation of The Met: Live in HD. The award-winning series of live high-definition cinema simulcasts features the full live performance along with backstage interviews and commentary.

Bass René Pape, the world’s reigning Boris, reprises his tremendous portrayal of the tortured tsar caught between grasping ambition and crippling paranoia, kicking off the highly anticipated 2021–22 Live in HD season. Conductor Sebastian Weigle leads Mussorgsky’s masterwork, a pillar of the Russian repertoire, in its original 1869 version. Stephen Wadsworth’s affecting production poignantly captures the hope and suffering of the Russian people, as well as the title ruler himself.

Seating capacity in the Clark’s auditorium has been reduced for this season to accommodate greater social distancing. Tickets are limited to 100 guests and are selling quickly. All guests age five and older are required to wear facemasks at all times while inside the Clark’s facilities.

The next Met: Live in HD performance is Terence Blanchard’s adaptation of Charles M. Blow’s Fire Shut Up in My Bones, airing Saturday, October 30 at 12:55pm.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
