Assembled Ewer and Basin
1783/84
This ewer and basin once belonged to different toilet sets that were used by gentlewomen during their levee, the daily ritual of washing and dressing. The decorations on each piece are slightly different—the roses on the ewer are chased, whereas those on the basin are engraved, and only the ewer is embellished with beading. An esteemed silversmith in his day, Boullier supplied silver to aristocrats throughout Europe and once received a commission from Catherine the Great of Russia.
