Countess Teresa Kinska Poniatowska
1765
An inscription on the back of this painting identifies the sitter as Teresa Kinska Poniatowska. The daughter of a Czech count, she married a Polish military officer, Andrzej Poniatowski, whose brother became the king of Poland in 1764. The Swedish artist Krafft briefly served as painter to the king and produced portraits of several members of the Poniatowski family, including another of Teresa wearing the same dress and pearls.
