Charles Adams Platt
American, 1861–1933
The Quay, Larmor
1884–85
Many American artists traveled abroad to study painting in the late nineteenth century. Platt, who was born in New York, spent time in the small town of Larmor on the coast of Brittany in northwestern France during the summer of 1884. This painting of the village harbor emphasizes the pearly gray coastal light, which lends a poetic beauty to the everyday scene.
