Francesca Alberti is associate professor at the Université de Tours and the Centre d’études supérieures de la Renaissance (CESR). Since 2019, she has served as the Director of the Art history department at the French Academy in Rome–Villa Medici where she oversees the institution’s scientific and research projects; the collections (as State Heritage Conservator); is editor-in-chief of the Studiolo art history journal and director of art history publications. Her research focuses on art and visual culture in the early modern period, graphic arts, graffiti and museography. Her publications include La Peinture facétieuse. Du rire sacré de Corrège aux fables burlesques de Tintoret (Actes Sud, 2016); co-editor of Pierres, matières et surfaces à la Villa Médicis (Silvana, 2024); Corps troublants. Images et imaginaires dans la première modernité (Silvana, 2024); Rire en images à la Renaissance (Brepols, 2018); Penser l’étrangeté (PUR, 2012) ; co-curator of the exhibition Gribouillage / Scarabocchio. From Leonardo da Vinci to Cy Twombly (2022–2023).
