John Onians

Onians is professor and director of the World Art Research Programme in the School of World Art Studies at the University of East Anglia and former director of Research and Academic Programs at the Clark Art Institute. His festchrift, Raising the Eyebrow: John Onians and World Art Studies (ed. by Lauren Golden), has just been published. He is the author of numerous books and articles on art history, including the classic work Bearers of Meaning, and was the founding editor of the journal Art History. He is at present writing A Natural History of Art, an account of the biological basis of artistic activity worldwide.
