Ann Morris Reynolds is associate professor in the Department of Art and Art History and Center for Women and Gender Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Her area of focus is post-World War II art, architecture, and visual culture. She is the noted author of Robert Smithson: Learning from New Jersey and Elsewhere (Cambridge, MA, 2003), a provocative and intricately researched study of Smithson’s work and his archive in the context of the 1960s. She is a frequent contributor to numerous journals, anthologies, and exhibition catalogues that deal with modern and contemporary art. At the Clark she will be working on a new book project, Playtime: Creativity and Community New York, 1940-1970. Her project, the title of which is borrowed from the 1967 film by Jacques Tati, will address the formal, theoretical, and social circumstances of various creative communities in New York during the 1940s through the 1960s. The project will be focused by a number of case studies intersecting art world cultures and subcultures.
