Henk van Os is former director of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and presently holds the chair in Art and Society at the University of Amsterdam. He has held teaching positions at Princeton University, Harvard University, Heidelberg University, the Harvard Center for Renaissance Studies, and Smith College. His many publications include Mariological Themes in Sienese Painting: The Art of Devotion in the Late Middle Ages in Europe and Sienese Altarpieces, 1215-1460: Form, Content, Function.
