James Meyer

James Meyer is the Winship Distinguished Associate Professor of Art History at Emory University and contributing editor of Artforum. A specialist on the art of the 1960s and contemporary art, he is the author of Minimalism: Art and Polemics in the Sixties (New Haven, 2001) and editor of Minimalism (New York, 2000), Gregg Bordowitz’s The AIDS Crisis is Ridiculous (Cambridge, MA, 2004), and Carl Andre’s Cuts: Texts 1959-2004 (Cambridge, MA, 2005). His other writings include studies of Mel Bochner (Yale Art Gallery), Eva Hesse (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art), Andrea Fraser (Belkin Art Gallery), and Californian Minimalism (Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art), as well as the catalogue of Howard Hodgkin’s 2006 retrospective at Tate Britain, which he co-authored with Nicholas Serota. During his stay at the Clark, Meyer will develop a book of essays on the “sixties return” in contemporary art and art history.
