Jared Sexton teaches African American studies and film and media studies at the University of California, Irvine, where he is also affiliated with the PhD Programs in Culture & Theory and Visual Studies. His most recent books are "Black Masculinity and the Cinema of Policing" and "Black Men, Black Feminism: Lucifer's Nocturne." His research has been supported by grants from the National Academies, the Fulbright Program, and the Andy Warhol Foundation. At the Clark, he will be working on a critical survey of black monochrome painting within the broader history of modern abstract art and the place of black artists working with and against such developments.
