Johanna Burton is Keith Haring Director and Curator of Education and Public Engagement at the New Museum in New York. Burton has curated or co-curated a number of exhibitions, including Sherrie Levine: Mayhem at the Whitney Museum in 2011 (with Elisabeth Sussman); Anti-Establishment at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College in 2012; Take It Or Leave It: Institution, Image, Ideology at the Hammer Museum in 2013 (with Anne Ellegood); and XFR STN at the New Museum in 2013. Burton was director of the Graduate Program at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College from 2010-2013 and associate director and senior faculty member at the Whitney Independent Study Program (2008-2010). While at the Clark, she will be working on a project that examines the role of exhibition-as-object, as well as researching materials for a volume dedicated to the subject of transgender theory after feminism.
