Mårten Snickare

Mårten Snickare is associate professor at the department of art history, Stockholm University. His research and teaching revolve around the Baroque, particularly the ceremonial and performative use of Baroque space. Besides being the author of a number of articles on the theme, he is also the editor of a forthcoming volume on Performativity and Performance in Baroque Rome. Prior to his position at the university he worked as a curator of old master drawings at the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, where he curated exhibitions such as Nicodemus Tessin the Younger: Royal Architect and Visionary(2002), and The Human Body in Art and Science (2005). His Clark project focuses on the collecting and display of Native American objects in seventeenth century Sweden, and the role played by these objects in the formation of national identity.
