Matthew Jesse Jackson teaches in the departments of visual arts and art history at the University of Chicago. His book The Experimental Group: Ilya Kabakov, Moscow Conceptualism, Soviet Avante-Gardes is forthcoming from the University of Chicago Press in 2010. His current book project concerns art history, performance, and the contemporary art world. While at the Clark he will pursue, with collaborators Christopher Heuer and Andrew Perchuk, their proposed book project “Literal Speeds,” which will explore the underpinnings and development of art history as a discipline in light of its inherent ligatures with late-eighteenth-century cultural developments.
