Provenance
Sir Elijah Impey, 1784-1809;¹ Robert Sterling Clark.² 1. Of its subsequent history we know very little. Its French control mark, however, suggests it was imported into France sometime after 1 July 1893. 2. Comments in Clark's diaries of 7 May 1923 and 30 July 1923 concerning "a fine soup tureen," "Adams [sic] period 1784 for which I paid $550 in Paris," may be references to the present tureen.
