About the artist

Jennifer Steinkamp employs computer animation to explore ideas about architectural space, motion, and phenomenological perception in projected installations. Her digital works make use of the interplay between actual and illusionistic space, creating environments in which the roles of the viewing subjects and the art objects become blurred. She completed her BFA and MFA from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California, in 1989 and 1991 respectively, and also received an honorary PhD in 2011. Steinkamp has exhibited widely at prominent institutions and biennials worldwide, and her work can be found in numerous public and private collections, including the Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, Virginia; Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga, Spain; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, California; İstanbul Modern, Turkey; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California; Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minnesota; Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, Florida; and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas.

Featuring extensive installation photography, Jennifer Steinkamp: Blind Eye includes an essay by Lisa Saltzman, Starr Director of the Clark’s Research and Academic Program. Distributed by Yale University Press; 80 pages. Call the Museum Store at 413 458 0520 to order.
