Le Havre, Sailboats in the Port
1883
This painting depicts the port of Le Havre in Normandy, the second-largest harbor in France. Boudin's lively brushstrokes convey a sense of movement as the rapidly sketched figures, indicated by a few touches of gray and white paint, busy themselves in rowboats and on the dock near the moored vessels.
